SD Live: First Aid and Emergencies from Sierra Designs on Vimeo.
Pre-episode teaser
The next SD LIVE will broadcast on Thursday, August 20, at 5:30 PM PDT. Register here to join.
In this 45-minute live show, I will discuss Backcountry First Aid and Emergencies, specifically:
- Preparedness
- Wilderness medical training
- Items in my solo and group first aid kids
- Satellite communication devices, e.g. messengers and phones
There always seems to be a lot of interest in real first aid stories, so I may share a few of my personal experiences, too. Thankfully the list of major medical events is short: I’ve run 50+ guided trips and have only had one heli evac (strained LCL) and two self-rescues (intestinal duress and a bad open wound). More often, it’s been field treatable issues: overuse injuries, acute mountain sickness, and minor cuts, burns, scrapes, and diarrhea.
This will be our first program to air in the evening, rather than the middle of the day, and we’re hoping that this time will be convenient for more viewers, or at least for a different set of viewers. While the program will be available for later viewing in the SD LIVE archives, it’s better to tune in to the main event: you’ll have the opportunity to ask your questions, and normally SD gives viewers a discount code for product purchases.
Looking forward to Thursday!
Looking forward to this. I’m going thru all the historical shows of SD Live and all have such great information. A lot of it is common sense and you’re like, “that’s such a simple explanation but it makes sense!”.
Would you rather spend time to watch a dumb scripted “survival” show on Nat Geo or Discovery with those lying drama queens or watch an honest real discussion backed up by true experience. Answer is clear to me.
I can’t find this (these) casts online. Is there somewhere I should be looking for these?
We just had them posted this week. Check the SD Vimeo page. Would link but on my phone.
