The application period for 2019 trips will open on Monday, January 7, 2019.
Alumni are given preferential treatment. All other applications received through Sunday, January 20, will be given equal consideration.
Starting January 21, spots will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. I believe that up to three-fourths of the trips will be completely full after the open application period. If you are serious about a 2019 trip, apply early.
To apply during the open application period, complete the Application Form, which I will embed in this page.
During the open application period, you will not apply for a specific trip. Rather, you will tell me your preferences for trip length, location, and dates. Once the application period closes, I will offer you a spot on a trip (hopefully that matches your first-choice length, location, and dates perfectly) with other like-abled applicants.
This application process is unconventional and labor-intensive. But I think it’s more fair than a simple first-come, first-serve policy. And it produces better outcomes for everyone, because I have the flexibility to move applicants around and make more room.
This year I will be charging a $25 application fee to discourage halfhearted applications, which steal spots from more committed applicants and which consume administrative energy. The fee will essentially be revenue-neutral:
- If you accept a spot on a trip, the amount will be credited to its cost. The prices of 2019 trips are either unchanged or less than they were last year.
- If you are not offered a spot on one of your first-choice trips, the amount will be fully refunded back to your credit/debit card.
- If you are offered a spot on one of your first-choice trips but refuse it, the amount will not be refunded.
