In the two months since the Planning Curriculum started, I hope that you feel as if you’ve already learned a lot. Learning will continue — and, probably, accelerate — when we get into the backcountry and start working through the Field Curriculum.

To give you a headstart on some of the more important or complex topics, I want to share some online tutorials. If you are on a 3-day trip, new to backpacking, or rusty, I’d especially recommend that you read or watch them.

The topic that clients struggle with most is map and compass. It becomes second nature with practice, but it can be dizzying at the start. Get acquainted: Part 1, Part 2
