Public lands are one of our nation’s greatest resources. If your access to these lands has been hindered by limited financial resources, lack of intergenerational or communal outdoor knowledge, or discrimination, please apply for my scholarship program.
My goal with this program is to help diversify our community. In addition to subsidizing the cost of our programs, we are updating our curriculum and educating our guides to create more welcoming spaces for more people.
Recipients will be integrated into our guiding program or Plan Like A Pro online course. They will learn from world-class educators who will help them build the skills to support a lifelong relationship with the outdoors.
Who can apply?
We are looking for diverse candidates who love the outdoors but whose access has been limited by their finances. This is a needs-based scholarship that uses Living Wage, developed by MIT professor Dr. Amy K. Glasmeier.
For what are you applying?
In 2022 scholarship recipients are eligible for:
- Up to 10 spots on intro-level Backpacking Fundamentals courses in Colorado, California, and West Virginia; and,
- Up to 16 spots in the online Plan Like A Pro course.
The scholarship award is equal to 80 percent of the trip/course fee. The scholarship recipient is responsible for the remaining 20 percent.
We hope to expand this program in the future, like by offering more spots or including longer trips. But in the first year we’re keeping it manageable so that we can do it right.
All applications received by 8:00 AM MST on Monday, February 21, will be considered equally. It’s not first-come first-served.
The application includes long-form written responses, and we recommend that you prepare answers beforehand. To preview it, download the form as a PDF.
