Section Hikes & Runs
The Pfiffner Traverse is best completed as end-to-end thru-hike. Budget 6 to 10 days depending on your fitness, skills, and ambition.
For most, however, undertaking shorter sections will be much more practical. While some loops can be completed as a day-hike or trail run, most will require a multi-day effort. Section hikes are:
- More compatible with work and family responsibilities;
- Logistically simpler, since they are loops, not point-to-point itineraries; and,
- Less physically difficult, due to lighter food loads and shorter duration.
Because the Front Range has so many trailheads and such an extensive trail system, there are countless loops possible. The Pfiffner Traverse Guide includes an in-depth route description, detailed topographic maps, and datasheets for my most recommended routes (listed below), plus datasheets for another dozen loops.
