Day 13: Otter Trail, Plettenberg Bay

I finished up the Otter Trail this morning at the beautiful Nature’s Valley, where that sought-after long stroll on a sandy beach awaited me. Adél picked me up and we returned to the The Plettenberg, yet another high-end luxury hotel, for another superb breakfast, this time more deserved. I was very happy that one of the managers joined us for coffee—before Plettenberg he was a ranger at Kruger National Park, and he was very knowledgeable about issues like wildlife management, private reserves, and poaching. A nice preface for an upcoming leg of this trip…

We scored another night at the luxurious Pezula Hotel. Utterly disappointed, what a tough life I have! Despite having hiked the Otter Trail I was still feeling caged up so I went for a long run before Adél and I had dinner downtown. Ignoring a “No Entry” sign I hopped a fence near the resort and ran along a spectacular grassy ridge from where I could see both the Knysna Lagoon and the Ocean. The abundant sheep shit was thankfully dry, and the only other mammal I saw for the duration of the run was an ostrich—that’s right, an ostrich.

Was glad to stumble across this! My relatives have homes at Plett, they were talking about a hiking trail, must be the Otter Trail!
