A deal at $240: High Route Tent, 20% off through Labor Day

Sierra Designs is having a 20% sitewide sale through Labor Day. And orders of $49+ qualify for free shipping.

Most notably, the High Route Tent 1FL is now $240. For what you get, I thought its $300 MSRP was competitive. It’s a lot of tent at $240, and this price is probably as good as you’ll see for at least the next 12 months, when there may be some year-end clearance.

Another good buy: the Long-Sleeve Pack Polo, now $60. This is my go-to hiking shirt for 3-season conditions in the West. Read my long-term review. I recommend getting one size up. I’m a small Medium, and it’s tailor-made; an average Medium would want a Large.

First thing I thought of was the long sleeve pack polo. I love the short sleeve enough that I’m contemplating sending the long sleeve for a professional permathrin treatment. It’d be about 20-30 bucks but it’d completely replace the exofficio long sleeve bug shirt I have.

      Glad my recommendation proved credible.

I’ve managed to avoid bad bugs for a few years now, but I will most definitely do the exact thing that you are contemplating when I expect that streak to end. A highly breathable permethrin-treated shirt is WAY better than a stuffy woven nylon safari shirt.

Yeah I like them better than my merino baselayers that I used to wear. They only tend to come out now when it’s kind of cold.

I had mine permethrin treated, and I got a few bites through the shirt. I don’t know how many I would have gotten without treatment, but I’m not that impressed with the treatment so far. Bugs didn’t seem to be deterred from landing on my clothes. I guess it would be good for ticks since they would be near the chemical for longer under clothes.

I’m a small medium, but I have long (34″) arms. Medium or long on the Pack Polo?

I can only relay how it fits me. 6′ and 160, extra slim dress shirts, 34 in sleeve length, 16 in collar. You can see how it fits me in any of the recent SD videos like this one, https://youtu.be/NWaR_hWqm4E

Thanks! I’m slightly taller and lighter. Looks like you have enough sleeve length with the Medium.

I will be placing an order for the High Route Tent 1FL tonight!

Just curious, do you know if SD has any plans to offer a 2-person version of this shelter? I do a lot of backpacking with my wife and would love this same setup with room for two.

We do not plan to release a 2P version. The geometry does not work very well for two because the peak heights are different on each side of the tent. That might be okay with a buddy, since you probably want to sleep head-to-foot/foot-to-head anyway, but maybe not with your wife.

You might consider the Tentsegrity 2 instead. Read this thorough review of it from a harsh critic.
